Engadget: Kindle Fire vs. RIM Playbook
http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/28/k...laybook-fight/
I'm guessing RIM didn't have an exclusivity contract with Quanta? |

So is it the same device, rebranded and with different software? Wasn't that one of the rumors beforehand?

At this point, tablets are essentially commodities. They all look very similar, use similar internals, and most use the same software.
The only difference at this point are the services offered on them, and how much the vendor is willing to let users play around with 'em. |

I think RIM has QNX inside. If that's true, I trust more on that SO than on Android (I've worked with it and it's a very efficient and powerful real time system).

They are almost the same except people will actually buy the Kindle.

This is how rumours start.
It's not the same internals. No HDMI, no front or back camera, less memory, no 4G radio, etc etc. Paris, Ontario and Paris, France share a name and official language status ... the similarities fall off pretty quickly after that. Same with Kindle Fire and Blackberry Playbook. The retail price alone is enough to pause: $199 vs $499. Amazon has "left lots of stuff out". The Amazon tablet appears to be very well designed for its purpose: providing a strong entry into the Amazon content ecosystem at a price that tempts relevant consumers by the droves. Droves of droves, in fact. |

Who cares, I mean really, don't you geeks have anything better to do like get yourselves some lives.
The massive hoards who are going to buy this tablet really don't give a damn about how similar it looks to every other tablet out there. So long as it has/does what they want it to do they will be happy. |

Oh yeah, mine has some dedicated capacitive buttons on the front, some holes for the cameras to see through, and a puka for the SD card to fit in. |

Actually, no. The rumor started 2 days ago, before this pic.
