Sci-fi novels from Asia and South America?
A reading group I'm part of is having a challenge where you need to read novels in a genre of your choice by authors based in each major continent.
I need some recommendations for English language sci-fi novels written by authors based/born in Asia and South America. Any recommendations? |

Try Ryu Murakami's Coin-Locker Babies for a SF-ish story that I recall being quite good. It's portrayed only very slightly into the future, but has elements that remind me of William Gibson and Neal Stephenson. (and throw in a bit of the surreal ala Haruki Murakami, discovered Ryu due to the shared last name).

Best novel is Jasmine Nights, though that's technically more magical realism roman-a-clef. The Aquiliad, currently in print from Wildside Press (no e-book edition, unfortunately, is an excellent trilogy of what if the Americas were part of the ancient Roman empire due to alien meddling and a well-known Lakota narrated it all. Mallworld is also highly thought of and in-print (I have not read it myself). |
