single word wrapped onto a separate line on kindle (pdf to mobi)

I have 2 books that I just converted from pdf to mobi. While it's readable, it has a weird issue that I hope it can be fixed by tuning on the user end.
The problem is that on some lines that the last words are cut & wrapped onto the next line. It seems pretty random that the last words are not always cut because there isn't much space left to the right, sometimes it leaves half page empty and cut the word into a different line.
"like thi
s"

can someone suggest a workaround for this? One thing might be of some help is that when i looked into the converted HTML(using "pdftohtml"), I saw all the spaces were replaced with "&nbsp;" and there was no "<p>" tag, only "<br>". the built-in reader exhibits no such problem btw.

thank you.
