View Epub on Ikureader (DS)

I use my 3ds (nintendo) as an ereader at the moment. I have a flashcard on it which I installed an ereader program onto.

I placed The Haunting by Palahniuk in it (Ikureader is the program) as an epub, and it appears fine when I read it on my nintendo. However I want to put The Domino Men by Barnes on it, again in epub, but when I view the ebook with the program, all the punctuation is replaced. Apostrophes are &rsquo etc. I've looked up this problem and I've found something about a code page.

The only problem is I don't know how to integrate a code page into a homebrew application. I've opened the book (epub) with both calibre and a chrome plugin, and both have the correct punctuation. It just gets messed up somewhere on my nintendo. Any ideas?

I searched for the first particular instance I found, which was &rsquo and it pointed me to a few posts on this site, where I found people having the same problem, but their solutions didn't seem like something that would be possible for me.

Instead of I'm, my display shows I’m and similar replacements for quotes and such.

Sounds like maybe the reader is buggy and doesn't support XHTML entities. Try mass-substituting the numerical entities, e.g. ’ becomes & #8217; (without the space).

Not sure if this is it, but it was in a folder installed with the application, and the file was called 8859-1_Western_1

I checked out the website provided and it only confounded the situation for me even more. I would find&replace but the problem only happens when I'm viewing the epub with the program on my DS.

That's just a translation table from a common legacy character set (ISO-8859-1) to UTF-8. It has nothing to do with entity handling; that table is used when the device encounters high ASCII characters (e.g. the actual é character, not the é entity).

I would assume this is a buggy program, as it is homebrew (homemade), but it shows my copy of The Haunted just fine, punctuation intact.
