AT&T iPad 3G Network Restrictions

AT&T and their 29.99 monthly fee are blocking Skype Calls and limiting bandwidth for video. In fact the ABC app doesn't work on 3G. They better do something about this as people will not stand for it.

Most people don't know the difference or don't care. I happened to be in an Apple Store today and the ABC app worked.

Skype for the iPhone should use 3G. Skype has not updated their app for 3G iPads yet.

It is not ATT blocking 3G Skype...it is Skype!! Other apps for voip work on iPad 3G. I believe it's part of Verizon contract with Skype.

It is measuring bandwidth so you get degraded video on WiFi as well. The app should be able to tell if it has a WiFi or 3G connection and then limit bandwidth accordingly.

Just because you're on WiFi doesn't mean your upstream connection is necessarily faster. If my iPad was connected to my 3gs over Wifi (thanks to the MyFi app) I'm still going over 3g speed to ABC. I'd rather have a lower-resolution connection than one that stutters. Measuring bandwidth back to ABC's servers is the proper way to go.
