Patricia Clark Memorial Library
I have to disagree with allowing people to upload their own books, poetry, whatever, instead of limiting the Library to something approximating the "classics" (however we may define that). This will remove most quality control from what has been up until now an excellent resource, and it will cause the Library to become cluttered with large numbers of works which are not what it was originally intended for, leading to it becoming difficult to find those works it was meant for.
Project Gutenberg doesn't allow self-written books at all, and Feedbooks has a special section for them. I don't think we should be an exception there. |

People are - and will remain - very welcome to upload their own work to our library. That is, and will continue to be, our policy.

That's not exact. PG allows self-written books if they have been published before: http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Gutenb...wn_Work_How-To
But this is not Project Gutenberg and our goal is different. Currently, the library is not "cluttered" by self-published books. If it becomes a problem, I'm sure the administrator(s) would think about it, though. |

Even tho he sounds suspiciously like Spock in his post, I have to agree with HarryT here.
We're not just a "classics" library. MobileRead has always been very supportive of independent authors. Like any library you walk into, there will be books you want to read, and those you don't. I don't see it as a quality issue, but as a choice. |

We don't permit fan fiction, because, generally speaking, it violates copyright, being a derived work created without the author's permission. But any original work that doesn't impinge on anyone else's copyright you're very welcome to upload here, yes.

Is the library staying in its current form. I recall hints of work being carried out to change it.

Perhaps a special section could be set up for the self-uploaded books?
