Calibre Metadata question

Not sure which forum to post on,
I have many many metadata files in my Calibre folder. Do they all need to be there? Should I delete old ones and keep only the newer ones?

If you are asking this question (good, you did), you don't know enough about the structure of Calibre to be able to work inside the Library without causing problems.

1)Treat your Library as a 'Black Box'. Everything a standard user needs can and SHOULD be done via the GUI (CLI).

2)If you follow rule #1 there is no OLD metadata. Each title has a backup of the data shown in the GUI for that title.

If you have been breaking Rule #1, you need to run the Library Maintenance NOW and fix the things (reported) before it gets worse

I don't know wether this is the right thread, but I'm having trouble with my metadata. It happened after I installed the newest tools of Appr.Alf and newest update of Calibre.
For individual books it downloads the metadata, though not for all books. It doesn't download bulk metadata >4. ' Work error. Failed to connect to worker process'.
I tried disabling the firewall, setting the firewall anew. Calibre is permitted to connect under the firewall. Did Library Maintenance, just in case. Got a previous version of Calibre back with my time-machine. Restarted my Macbook during these things.
Does anyone know a not too complicated solution?

Ask 'Alf' questions where you found him. It is MR policy that no discussion on that be done here.

Thank you, I will.
I haven't the faintest idea wether is was the Calibre-update or the update of the tools that makes the downloading of my metadata problematic.
That will teach me not to do two different kind of updates in 5 minutes time.
