A weird 'sighted in the wild' experience

I was on the subway yesterday and heard two guys beside me loudly start chattering in a foreign language as soon as they saw me. There was much pointing and exclaiming---they were clearly talking about me---followed by (in English) the phrase 'digital book reader.' And then more pointing and exclaiming, followed by some knowing winks when they caught my eye. Clearly they were very excited to see my Kindle! Unfortunately, it seems they only spoke German (or it might have been a Scandinavian language, I couldn't tell) so I could not really show it off to them properly or do any sort of explanation...

I would've tried striking up a conversation with them, and if they replied they did not speak English well, I would've been OK with that.

The odds are they spoke at least a little.
