PRS-650 Epubs won't display Croatian letters, rtfs are acting crazy

I am trying to figure out a way to display Croatian letters in my epubs, but I can't.

I use Pages to create a book, edit it and then export it as epub. This is what it looks like when opened in calibre:

This is what it looks like when I open it on my Reader:

This is what a rtf looks like:

Help?

I have always had trouble with ć and č in rtf, so I usually convert any Croatian text into a PDF, and jack up the font and cut off the margins to accommodate the smaller screen size (I just use word or open office to do that, I adjust the fonts and margins and then print to pdf). Sorry, I know that probably am not helping too much! I think that there is some sort of way to get the Croatian letters onto an epub. Try hitting the "transliterate unicode characters to USCI" button in Calibre (under look and feel when you use the converter in calibre) and see what happens. (disclaimer: I haven't yet tried that, so take my advice with a grain of salt

).

Why don't you make a 5" or 6" PDF? It'd be easier to read.

in epub you need to embed your own fonts for that
the builtin fonts in the reader systems have a lousy glyph coverage

ah, what about LRF's then? They embed fonts.
