[Feature Request] Series ID
As far as I can tell there's no way for either users or plugin authors to make use of series ID numbers from metadata sources. Please correct me if I'm wrong. While this feature may not be terribly helpful with novels, it would be life-saving for periodicals such as comic books (I first brought it up in the Comicvine plugin thread). It would allow us to edit metadata in bulk on large series, add the series ID, and then fetch the correct metadata for series with similar names and/or conflicting naming conventions (very common in comics).
It also seems like very basic infrastructure that could open up unforeseen uses by plugin authors. |

Use the identifiers field. All identifiers are passed to plugins by the metadata download system. You can use the search and replace tab in the bulk metadata dialog to set the same identifier for many books at once.

The book would be identified in Comic Vine's database as "4000-123456." A series is identified in Comic Vine's database as "4050-456789." How would one designate the series using Calibre's identifier field? I can understand if there's something that needs to be built out in the ComicVine plugin--it's still pretty new. I also can't find a way to add an editable identifier column to the main library: only display identifiers via the ISBN template. ETA: to be clear above, "4000" is the actual Comic Vine prefix for individual book listings, and "4050" is the actual prefix for series listings. Last edited by taosaur; 06-14-2013 at 10:52 PM. |

You can use whatever format for the identifier you like, for example,
comicvine-series:XXXX But you will have to ask the plugin author to add support for that identifier in his plugin. |
