Time to warm up the K3 de-bricking tools.
Nobody is going to be able to follow those directions. |

FWIW, it doesn't seem to nix the JailBreak, or any of my hacks... (I'll check more in depth as soon as my K3 is fully charged... Damn thing drains the battery like crazy just sitting pretty, doing nothing (>1K items), while my empty K2i is still full charge...).
And it does update the Fonts, same ones as FW 4.1.0... The Touch is now the only 'recent' device to still use the 'older' Fonts... Grmbl. |

Amazon seems to be trying to minimize their 3G expenses as fast as they can empty those stockroom shelves. Not to worry, they will still **sell** you 4G access plans (for the fire models). |

Do the B006/B00A different downloads matter? How about if people debricked a Euro K3 3G using a US firmware image? Then which update?

@geekmaster: The one that matches their S/N. (The updater won't let you run/see an update targeted at a device code that doesn't match your device).

Ahh... So it is NOT dependent on the firmware image flashed to it, but rather just dependent on its serial number. Right?

@geekmaster: Yep.
Which explains the mess for the 3.x-on-DXG adventurers: Can only run dxg packages, but those are usually bundling code not necessarily expecting FW 3.x . |

At the success/fail level - - - If any of this update does not find the checksum correct on the files to be replaced / patched - then it will fail. So if there is a difference in the files between what the serial number predicts to be installed vs what the end-user put there ... I would expect the update to fail. Plus, notice the directions towbob posted here - - This is not a cumulative update, its an incremental - - It must be applied to 3.3 - - And 3.3 must be applied to 3.2 - - And 3.2 must be applied to 3.1 - - Grumble, Curse, etc. |

My wifi-only kindle I recently unboxed still has 3.0.2 firmware. It has no hacks on it. I suppose I should make fresh images after each upgrade step...

From that long list of directions (last post, prior page, this thread) you can almost bet someone will need one of them.

So anyone, exept NiLuJe successfully upgraded a jailbroken 3.3 to 3.4? I have first feedback of at least 2, who had no success. One still on 3.3, the other upgraded after factory reset but it seems, he lost jailbreak and 0.51 will not install.

geekmaster: I don't think you would need to make an image of each and every step. Anyone could flash that early, pristine version and hop through the versions on their own.

Yeah. Not sure when I would get around to it anyway. I put it back in the back after copying images off of it.

@diba: This is a K3, so, yeah, all *my* hacks are update-proof. I can't speak for others, though, but the update is pretty 'friendly' in that department (hell, it's the first major update since forever that didn't kill a jailbreak!).
As always, the logs hold the only definitive answer in case of failures . |
