Calibre/Kindle newbie needs help with pdf coversion and creating device collections.
The two biggest challenges that I am having now are:
1. Converting multiple column PDF files into a readable mobi. Is there something in the preferences that I can attend to that will do this? Or is there another program that will do a better job than Calibre with this kind of thing? <I use a Mac.> 2. I have many books on my Kindle and would like to create collections for the device within Kindle that I can synch with the device. Ideally, I could put all of my books of a particular subject in appropriate groups and be able to organize them within that group based on criteria such as favorite, last read, etc.. On the Kindle, this can only be done one book at a time and is very awkward. This seems to be an essential aspect of organizing a large collection that seems ideal for a program like Calibre -- but I just can't figure out how to do this. Thanks in advance for your help! |

Multicolumn PDF isn't supported in the current version of the PDF format plugin. There's a new plugin being written which will be released When It's Done. Be sure to also read the PDF questions sticky in the conversion forum.

Take a look at the Kindle Collection plugin and see if that will work for you.

Try sending the pdf to amazons free conversion service and see how it comes out. Even if it does not come out right its free to try.

It's not true, by the way, that you can only add one book at a time to a Kindle collection. Select the collection, right click, then choose "add/remove books". You'll then be shown a list of all the books and you can check or uncheck them to add them to the collection. This is a very rapid way of maintaining your collections.
