Default library in Calibre Portable

Hi,

is there any way, how to change the default library in Calibre Portable? I would like to migrate from Calibre to Calibre Portable. I set a new library in Calibre Portable, but the default library is still opened after restarting Calibre Portable. No "default library" choice appeared, when I started Calibre Portable at the first time.

Any suggestions, please?

I believe that when this question has come up before, Kovid has posted that it's intentional that it behaves this way. Since it's a portable version, it can't know where you've saved the library on any given computer, so it always defaults to one. You can always switch to the one you want, once it's done booting up.

If you just copy the full contents of your existing calibre library folder to the folder that Calibre Portable uses as it's default library then it should come up with the correct contents.

As was mentioned you cannot change the library folder that Calibre Portable starts with - this is hard-coded into Calibre Portable as a particular folder relative to where Calibre Portable has been installed.

OK, thank you for your responses... Copying an existing library to the Calibre Portable library is possible, of course... but there is a few other software (editors or so on), that works with the original directory...

I was just looking for the exact same specific thing - weird

Surly there is something we can put after the shortcut to open a specific library?

calibre-portable.exe -open "mylibrary" shortcut

Would be useful for those of us who use Calibre portable on their main system, but just don't see the need to install it.

It may be useful but it currently does not exist. Until it exists just setup your primary library in the Calibre Library folder as expected by calibre portable.

If you want to use calibre portable on your main system, dont run it with calibre-portable.exe, run it with calibre.exe, then it will be identical to running an "installed" calibre.
