Thanks Natch - I will ask around. I am sure the kids in the street will have one.
PS - Loving the phrase "wallwart" for a plug put a big smile on my face when I read it |

Heh, I was using "wallbrick" myself, but someone here used "wallwart" and I recognized the inevitable when I saw it.

Doesn't your 500 come with the AC adapter? If so, you don't need a PSP AC adapter as you'll already have one.

I wonder why the PSP chargers are faster than others? The official PRS-505 wallwart I bought with my reader puts our 5.2 amps while the PSP unit puts out 5.0 amps. Is one of the units marked wrong, does the amperage not matter, is there meaning to life? Sorry, got sidetracked. Is it the consensus of this august gathering that the PSP is the fastest way to charge a 505?

The amperage matters in that it has to be enough to handle the draw of whatever's plugged into it, it looks like 5 is sufficient, given the large number of folks who find it works. The voltage is the more finicky bit, and the two chargers are the same voltage. The main reason the AC charger (be it the PSP or "official" Reader one) works faster than the USB one is that the USB one can't dish out as much current as the AC chargers can. As far as the "faster" bit goes, you don't have to take our word for it: If memory serves me, Sony spec'ed the USB charger at 6 hours and the AC one at 4, and they're the ones we all got the idea of using the PSP chargers from in the first place (it's about half-way through the first post -- look for the highlighting). |

Honestly, if everyone here used a PSP charger (or a PSP charging cable), there would be NO threads about frozen screens and dead batteries due to charging problems. It has nothing to do with the battery specifications anyway. The charging circuitry built into a device controls how current is taken in and sent to the battery. Please don't spread misinformation or half-truths. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing; a PSP charger for a Reader is not. |
