Updates for Windows 7 Users?

I see on the download page, a message stating that Windows 7 / Vista users should use an older version of Calibre.

Will newer versions of Calibre fail on those operating systems?

The issue is that of video drivers and the QT framework that calibre is built upon not working well together.

I believe some people have had success installing calibre portable but your milage might vary.

You can try the Calibre 6 portable version. But you will need to be running a 64-bit Windows as Qt6 is 64-bit only.

You had my hopes up, but the portable installer doesn't allow it. It throws an error message:

"Your version of Windows is tool old. calibre requires Windows 10 or greater."

Is there a way around that?

Calibre 6 will not work on Windows 7 or Windows 8 because Qt6 does not support both operation systems. Also, Qt6 is 64-bit only.

Oops, I misread "portable installer" as "installer."
