kindle touch stuck in demo mode
I have a kindle touch that is stuck in demo mode. When i go into my computer, it lists it as a removeable drive. when I click on it, is says "please insert a disk into drive f : " I cannot copy any files to it, and jailbreak file does not copy to it either. Is there any way to break into the root file of the drive to alter it and make it usable ?

How did you get it into demo mode in the first place?

What you are calling "demo mode" may actually be "fake usb drive" mode, which is what the kindle does when it is in low power mode because of a discharged battery. The reason it does that is to prevent a host PC with "green" energy saving enabled from turning off power to the USB port that you need for recharging a kindle. Low power mode in the kindle turns off the flash memory and even the main SDRAM memory, to minimize power consumption and keep total power usage under 100mA including the battery charging current.
A bricked kindle may become stuck in low power mode. You can try booting to other modes using MfgTool, available in the "select boot" thread in the dev corner forum (also linked from the "simple debricking" sticky there). |

Or possibly a store demo not meant for resale?

What is on the display? The first post does not make it clear. How do we know it is demo mode, and not just an interpretation of why it does not show up as a normal USB drive?
If it has special demo firmware, you should be able to reflash it with normal firmware (see the developer's corner forum). But you may not be able to register it with amazon, which means you cannot use it to purchase books from the amazon store. Specifically, read the "simple debricking" sticky thread in the dev corner forum. Last edited by geekmaster; 06-02-2012 at 10:07 PM. |
