I can, at least, claim truthfulness of detail for this story, as I lived for some years in that wild and fascinating portion of “The Great Lone Land,” described in these pages, as a mounted police officer in charge of that part of the frontier So, the cowboys, the mounted policemen, the Indians, and even the bears and the smugglers, are all old friends of mine.
