PRS-650 prs650 No longer showing up when connected to computer.

I'm running a reasonably modern computer. Windows 7 with al the updates. Latest version of Calibre. My computer works fine with all other USB devices. The reader shows up under device manager just fine as SONY READER.
Nothing shows up in Calibre, and nothing under My Computer, while it used to show up as a removable drive.
It also says, No charging detected when plugged via USB which it didn't normally do either.
EDIT: I've done all the usual things, reseting with a pin, turning on and off the device and the computer seperately, connecting and reconnecting etc, always with the same result. Nothing.

Did you try another USB-port on the PC?

This sometimes solves the problem. At least in my case.

Does it show in Disk Management? If it does, right-click on it and assign a new drive letter, and then look for it under My Computer again.

if it is not charging then assigning a new drive letter will not help.
fault is with one of PC ( ports), cable or device.
pc/ports/cable can all be tested if you have more than one of.
charging the device via a mains charger is another useful test.
ebay has cheap generic cables & chargers. you don't have to use Sony ones.

possibly the reader IS faulty so I'd be looking for my receipts & guarantee paperwork also.
