Adult Themed Books

Inspired by the Do you like sex/love scenes in the stories you read? poll -
What is your favorite adult themed book, or who is your favorite adult themed author?

I actually haven't read a specifically adult themed book since I was of an age when I really should not have been reading them. The only author I can remember off of the top of my head is Harold Robbins.

Edit:
Adult Themed = Anything that would be labeled as "Adult" - Rated PG17, R, X or XXX.

Hmm... does this mean "outside of the realm of romance/erotica books?"

Sorting out the difference between "a book with strong romantic/erotic elements" and "genre romance/erotica" can be problematic, too, but I'd have an easier time with the question if I knew whether or not genre-specific books were really part of it. I have favorite romance & erotica authors; I'd have to really think about authors who aren't specifically considered part of the genre.

I read Harold Robbins' "The Carpetbaggers" at a young age, though I can't seem to remember what the book was about... certain scenes vaguely...

The next "biggie" was "The Pearl" (not the one by John Steinbeck)...

I also remember rec.arts.erotica and then alt.s.s, the latter of which is "housed" in a Repository....

Lot's of free stuff out there, including the White Shadow's Stories collection which I was able to spider into ebook form a long time ago! Just as an academic exercise...

Anything in the realm of erotica, where it is genre specific or not, I would imagine.

alt.sex.stories and alt.sex.stories.moderated are still around as is the Repository (search for asstr). Stories range from straight up porn to some pretty well written erotic stories.

Two words: Earl Thompson. The man wrote novels with some really hot sex. For the faint of heart, beware that some of his novels delved into incest. Caldo Largo is a great one without the really kinky stuff. Unfortunately, I don't think any of his works are in the ebook world.

By the way, there is another author by the name Earl Thompson. The one I like is discussed here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earl_Thompson

Well I've read some adult literature in my life, both non-kinky and kinky, and I'd have to say that most of it out there is trashy, crude and badly written, but there's one guy (or girl, whatever the case may be, you never know with online authors) that stands out - JJ Argus. His stories are above the average in being convincing / realistic (as in the psychology of the characters), and he even has a moderate amount of talent in crime / SF / horror plots. You can find his e-books on sites like Amazon and Smashwords, but be warned - most of them are about sexual domination (of females by males or by other females).
Here's an interview with him (again, be warned - there are some nude pics here, his book covers) : http://ebookblue.com/interview.htm
where he kind of explains the psychology of people who read his books and why they read them...
He's a really funny guy :

I do admit, however, my greatest publishing success has been with erotica and pornography.
Q: Why is that, do you think?
A: I'm just particularly perverted, I suppose.

or :

Q: Are you a perv?
A: Oh hell yes. But I think most of us are. Especially men. We've been taught to have less inhibitions about sex than women. I think a lot of women would be absolutely horrified if they had any idea what that nice fellow who sits across from them on the bus was thinking, or what their best friend's husband fantasizes about them, or even what mental images their brothers or husbands have masturbated to. Here's a clue for women. If you're at all attractive, many, many men have day dreamed about having wild, kinky nasty sex with you, schoolmates, your girlfriends' husbands or boyfriends, guys you barely know from work or school, guys you stand at the bus stop with. In their minds you've been naked at their knees, bent over, chained up, ****ing their wives or girlfriends - or goat. We guys have these kinky little porn movies running in our heads a lot, and anyone can be our co-star!
If a woman has an attractive sister or girlfriend she can be pretty sure her husband or boyfriend has directed a little porn feature in his mind featuring her, and probably all three of them together.

What a connoisseur of the male and female mind...
Read and learn, girls...

Been there, done that...

Now a question on the side, has anyone here read a pure porn book / story (one where sex doesn't serve the plot but the plot serves the sex and the purpose of the book is to arouse rather than entertain in the classic sense) and found themselves carried away by the non-sex plot (such as a fight against crime) and wished that the same author wrote another book only about that and without the sex (even though you started reading it because of the sex) ?
I found some sex stories really interesting and entertaining in a non-sexual way (I even found one touchingly romantic)... One such was about some Roman soldier who became a werewolf - I've never read such a great description of what it would be like to actually be a werewolf. Another one was about a female FBI agent fighting white slavery, the end with a shootout at a beachhouse reminded me of Hollywood cop shows, or even the white-ninja-hero short novels I used to read as a kid...
That's kind of ironic, starting to read something as smut and liking it for it's plot...

I think this site is under a scanner for some real sick and illegal stuff. Its surviving just because the content is just in written formwithout images. If someone is visiting it then beware of the content you download and read. It may spin your head.

Aa far as sex scenes are concerned they are part and parcel of each and every fiction book. Only the level differs.

That kind of goes for the whole Internet, you always have to be carefull where you click. I've stumbled on some stuff while surfing (not even surfing for porn but just ordinary surfing) that made my stomach turn inside out...

Actually, I started reading them because the author ended up on Fandom Wank due to one of those authorial meltdowns and her prose got mockity-mock-mocked so hard I checked the books out from sheer morbid curiosity, but Laurell K. Hamilton's Merry Gentry series kind of qualifies (though technically, it's not "pure" porn, just heavily erotica-laden fantasy centered around a porn-enabling plot).

I thought she actually had an interesting and different setup for how the modern human world interacted with the courts of Faerie than most authors came up with, and I liked the political maneuvering and would have liked to see much more of those aspects.

But her books were drawn out endlessly by fairly pointless and kind of boring gratuitous extra sex scenes* wherein eventually the action got to the point where a single plot thread would be spread over, like, 3 books while the characters had sex, sex, and more sex instead of wrapping up in the book where that particular plot thread was supposedly the main story focus.

Apparently, her Anita Blake series which I haven't read went much the same way, according to disappointed former fans, only with the extra frustration of not having been intended as porny-porn-porn-with-occasional-plot to begin with, unlike the Merry Gentry books, which were kind of always like that and made no pretenses otherwise.

* A few or even a lot would have been fine, since sexual negotiations were a big part of the Faerie cultural interactions†, as long as they didn't slow down what little there was of the plot to a practical standstill, which they ended up doing.

† And they did add somewhat to the depiction of the interpersonal character dynamics, at least in the earlier books.

Yes. Except it's not so much "without the sex" but "with less sex". I like sex in stories, especially if it contributes to the character development and/or plot. But with well-written stories I frequently find myself wishing that the author would skip this sex scene here right now and get on with the plot instead.

Tease. Come on, spill! I want titles and authors here. :-) I'll reciprocate once I'm back home and have access to my bookmarks again. One story I remember blowing me away is Ryan Sylander's Opus One - it's a standard threesome romance, but I have a weakness for music-themed stories, which this one is, and I found myself drawn into the story and characters despite having started it for the smut.

As for the original question: MeiLin Miranda is, hands down, my favourite adult-themed author. Her Intimate History series isn't exactly pure erotica, but it's well-written fantasy with engaging characters, a detailed world, and a wide-ranging plot which happens to have sexuality as one of its main themes.

Not my cup of tea! Nor is rape or any other kind of sexual assault. Kinky is fine as along as they are all consenting adults. I don't care who you ask, incest is not part of that. There is always psychological manipulation involved.

Not hard core porn by any means, but Robert Vardeman and Victor Milan's fantasy War of Powers series contains quite a few sex scenes.

I quite enjoyed both the stories and the sex scenes!

1. What the hell is a Fandom Wank ?
2. What the hell is wangst ?
3. What the hell is screed ?
I thought I knew everything there was to English, but people keep thinking up new words all the time... Mostly geeky people it seems...

Well OK, I'll give you what I can remember.
The story with the werewolf was called "Lupine Dreams" and the werewolf was called Dagomarus (no idea about the author). I think you can find it (maybe in parts) on the above mentioned newsgroup and repository. You should be aware however this story includes some pretty kinky stuff, including bestiality - well that's kind of unavoidable in a werewolf love story. Basically, Dagomarus is an ex Roman soldier now permanently in wolf form, but he is still sentient and retains his memories, and can communicate telepathically when he chooses to, so he and a human woman fall in love in spite of his "condition". The story is sex-oriented but I liked the tragic werewolf story (and the ill-fated romance) better than the sex... I was kind of rooting for the werewolf but the story doesn't end with him (I dont want to give too much away to you)... Anyway if you can handle the kinkiness it's not bad. If you can't find it online PM me and I'll see if I still have it somewhere and send it to you via some upload site, provided you can prove you're over 18 somehow (cause I don't want to land in a heap of trouble otherwise)...
The one about the FBI agent was the 3rd or 4th of 4 parts of Veronica Beacher's series about the FBI agent Gwen Ryan, you should be able to find that on Amazon or somewhere, Google it.
It's similar in style to the aforementioned Argus (sexual domination that is), but it also doubles as a half-decent crime story.
Basically, you've got a rookie greenhorn FBI agent who through 4 books progresses to become an experienced FBI agent and the scourge of white slavers, and also manages to get into a lot of trouble along the way when she gets literally screwed so she also progresses from complete sexual innocent to sexual submissive to sexual dominant. Some scenes are pretty hard, so I really hope everyone reading this thread about adult themed books is an ADULT !

P.S.
Totally besides the topic, does anyone know what those cheap / trashy / short ninja novels I read as a kid might be called (so I can look at them again) ?
I think they were American in origin, might have even been named something like the American ninja or something, and the main character was a white guy who had perfect ninja training, perfect martial skills, perfect 6th sense (and 7th and 8th too !), was perfectly heroic and perfectly handsome, and he spent his days fighting villains mostly with his hands and his shurikens and seducing beautifull women at the same time, kind of a James Bond / Bruce Lee mix ?
