I haven't had issues with any PDF files on the Nook, but you may be referring to a 'scanned' book in PDF format as opposed to formatted text within a PDF. As far as I know, viewing two pages on one page is a function of the PDF viewer unless the source was a scanned book, where the two pages are actually just two pages of a book that was scanned. The same applies for slanted text.

I've opened and read scanned PDF books up to 70MBs in size - I just tried that book again in both the built-in reader and the softroot reader. Both work well, although there's a lot more page turning - depending on your zoom level.

Check out this thread for more info on the softroot PDF reader.

If it's scanned PDF and you can use the nice program called briss (available at this forum) to split pages into half then use other app to rotate it (the nook does not support landscape mode natively) - after these prep work, the nook loads the PDF pretty fast - I have a scanned PDF of 10000+ pages and I split each page and rotate the result, finally I get a 300mb PDF file with over 20K pages, loaded into the nook, it handles it properly and very fast - the only issue is the go to page scroll bar is hard to work with as I have more than 20K pages so you can never scroll it down precisely which page you want to go to - I do hope in the next firmware update, they can let you enter the page number you want to jump to instead of the scroll bar.
