Many ereader reviews from USA based sites will cover every Kindle ereader with—perhaps—a token mention of a Kobo or other ereader brand. One recent example mentioned the Clara 2E in passing and ended by wishing that Amazon would produce an 8" ereader with buttons and stylus capability—a smaller Scribe. My comment that the Kobo Sage already offers that capability was rejected since the Sage can't mark up PDF and is unable to sync reading progress with Amazon.

The Sage marks PDFs in a simpler way than the Scribe, which requires KFX and Amazon server in the loop.
Well, only Amazon apps and Amazon ereaders can sync with Amazon. Also irrelevant if you only have one ereader and don't sync with a phone/tablet. Though mentioned often here, I don't know anyone reading ebooks here IRL using sync. Also for advanced notebooks has writing conversion/recognition to text, equations, shapes and checkboxes with export to text (text only), docx or HTML, and including freehand drawing / writing. The converted shapes can be scaled and edited (like a poor version of Visio) and export to docx. Scribe and reMarkable has nothing like that. A similar application is on iPad or Android tablets that have a digitiser and and the version on the Kobo has more features than free Nebo, you have to buy full version on iPad. My small granddaughter is writing illustrated books (with conversion to computer text) purely with 3rd party Pen and advanced Notebooks on Sage. She doesn't ever need WiFi. Copies files to her laptop via USB. Five family members now have the Sage. Last edited by Quoth; 10-05-2023 at 03:27 PM. |

I will admit to finding it humourous the number of times I've read messages from people who have never used sync between devices listing it in their top 3 needs.

The problem for me is that while the Kindle ereaders are a decent product, they are not the only product. All too many American reviewers don't seem to have realized that there are other brands and very often they are better than the Amazon equivalent.

The UK Media still slobbers over Apple launches as if no-one else makes phones. But unlike Kindles, the Apple phones are maybe 90% margin. Certainly overpriced and there is no actual phone service that doesn't work as well or better with other phones. I've an Oppo bought last year (under €200) that has dual SIM and micro-SD all in one tray (I've 256G in it), USB-C, 3G RAM & 32G Flash built in, 3 camera sensors, and a real 3.5mm phone jack. It's had FW updates too. No UK or Irish media reviews anything other than Apple. At least the Kindles are competitively priced (probably because they more interested in selling ebooks) and let you load ebooks directly (the iPhone direct sideloading only works with 3rd party apps), though locally PC controlled features are less than early models. The MTP + KFX is a bad look. Last edited by Quoth; 10-08-2023 at 05:24 AM. |

I see it as a waste of an article given what's listed is all there really is in the usa for ereaders.
