Unhappy [Closed] AZW not converting to ePub

I'm new at this so hope I'm doing this right.

- Purchased a book at Amazon
- Title: Magic's in the Bag: Creating Spellbinding Gris Gris Bags & Sachets
- Removed DRM using an app I've been using for years and have never had problems with
- Added it to Calibre and all the fields were blank except the title which said B004CCRPAK EBOK
- Added the correct title and got the metadata.
- Book is in AZW format
- My device is a Simple Touch Nook

Ran convert book and it's unable to convert, nor can it be opened in Calibre and this is the error info I got on the convert:

calibre, version 2.15.0 (win32, isfrozen: True)
Conversion Error: Failed: Convert book 1 of 1 (Magic's in the Bag: Creating Spellbinding Gris Gris Bags & Sachets)

Seems it's not an AZW file

The only way I got it to open is to rename it to B004CCRPAK_EBOK.epub. then Calibre can open it

Thanks so much...I never even thought of doing that. Dah. After it loaded and worked in Calibre, I converted it from epub to epub and then it would also open in my Nook.

You're my hero of the day!
Thanks again.

Sounds like whatever you used to DeDRM it did something wonkily suspicious to the book.

Best way to DeDRM your books -- use the tools from http://apprenticealf.wordpress.com -- those definitely work as expected. Bonus -- it installs in calibre, and you don't have to use a separate app.

P.S. Please remove the book, as it is copyrighted material -- which makes posting it here copyright infringement.

Removing book from post

I don't know how to remove the book from my post. Can you tell me how to do that. I don't see where it's still posted, there is a "Mod removed book" green box so perhaps the moderator did that for me.

I've tried to add plugins, but don't really understand the process. Every time I install them, they don't work. Would you mind clarifying (or simplifying) the instructions for installing them for me?

Thanks in advance.

@Tatezi - try this
  • Preferences->Advanced (bottom row)->Plugins->Get new plugins (button);
  • Find required plugin -- Filter Box top right, or sort by Plugin Name (click column header);
  • Double click required PI - you may be invited to customise or add plugin to toolbar -- put it in Main to start with;
  • Eventually you'll be asked to Restart calibre -- do so.
If PI is not in toolbar you may need to add it via Preferences->Interface (top row)->Toolbars. Not all plugins can be put into toolbars, eg metadata source plugins are accessed via Preferences->Sharing (fourth row)->Metadata download (or in Metadata Edit).

If you think the PIs are really not being installed
  • Use Preferences(dropdown menu)->Restart in debug mode.
  • When cailibre restarts you'll get a popup message - click OK.
  • Quit calibre, and a log will be shown in default text editor
  • Copy the log to clipboard (ctrl/a, ctrl/c)
  • Paste clipboard (ctrl/v) into a new post here

Thanks in advance.
If you mean the DeDRM plugin, you will need to use the option to load plugin from file, instead of Get new plugins (that only works for official plugins) -- and make sure you first unzip the tools bundle download.
A step-by-step is posted on the blog.

I'm so confused. I followed the instructions from the site:

Installing the DeDRM plugin for calibre

Download the latest tools package, and unzip it.
(On Windows, right-click and “Extract All…”; After extracting all, rename the tools_vX.X.X.zip file to tools_zipped_vX.X.X.zip to prevent later confusion)
Run calibre. From the Preferences menu select “Change calibre behavior”.
(Do not click “Get plugins to enhance calibre”, that option is reserved for ‘official’ calibre plugins.)
Click on Plugins (under “Advanced”) — it looks like a jigsaw puzzle piece.
Click on the large “Load plugin from file” button
Navigate to the tools folder unzipped in step 2
Open the “DeDRM_calibre_plugin” folder
Select the DeDRM_plugin.zip file in that folder
Click on the “Add” (sometimes “Open”) button.
Click on the “Yes” button in the “Are you sure?” warning dialog that appears.

When I imported a book into Calibre, it won't open. And yes, I restarted Calibre.

Also when I go to add the plugin (I'm assuming that's what you mean by PI) to the tool bar, there isn't a plugin option to add.

Just don't understand what I'm doing wrong. People in my group who aren't at all computer savvy do it, and I'm computer savvy and can't do it. Maybe old age has stolen my brain processing ability. Do I have to unistall Calibre, reinstall it and start all over? And if I do, will I need to add all my books to Calibre again? Or can I just try adding the plugin again?

More dazed and confused than I was yesterday.

de-DRMing cannot be discussed at Mobileread - period. You must go to the site where you got it.
