MS Office 2010 "Professional Academic" for $80

This is a little off-topic, but I know that some other students out there might be thinking of buying the new edition of MS Office before the start of the fall classes. If so, *don't* buy the "Student and Home" edition (Excel, OneNote, PowerPoint, Word) for $120 from your college bookstore or Best Buy, Office Depot, etc. Instead, you can buy "Professional Academic" directly from Microsoft for $80, which includes the full suite (Access, Excel, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, Word).

http://www.microsoft.com/student/off...s/default.aspx

For MS Office 2007, it was called "Ultimate Steal." You can also get a full version of Windows 7 Professional for $30 (they call it an upgrade, but the discs will install on a completely blank drive). For whatever reason, not a lot of people know about it, but it's a really one of the few generous things that MSFT does for students.

All you need is a .edu email address and documentation of current enrollment (if asked--when I ordered Office 2007 a few years ago, no documentation was needed).

To report a post that you believe violates the rules of the forum, click the caution icon (triangle with exclamation point in the middle) on the bottom of the post. That's probably more effective than posting the same response in every thread that he has posted (certainly less annoying/obtrusive to the rest of us).

OpenOffice.org is my favorite. And it comes with a PDF printer built- in. Too bad there isn't a lot of movement on an ODF reader for Android.

I'm on the open office bandwagon. It will open any type of file. I had a student send me a file extension I had never seen before, open office opened it with no problems.
