What the heck?
OK, I'm reading a MOBI on my Kindle (the one with buttons but no keyboard) and decide to try the file on my new Aura HD and this is typical of what I get a couple of times in a single page:
As soon thade. Asas his door thunked closed. (Bolding is mine) On the Kindle and Kindle for PC I get this: As soon as his door thunked closed. I convert the file with Calibre and read the EPUB with FBReader and I get the same as with the Kindle, all OK I copy it to the Kobo and it now plays OK. Are MOBI files on the Kobo always this crappy? I am very new to Kobe so please forgive my ignorance. Anyone else have this problem? My Kobo firmware is: 2.5.2 the latest from 5/7/13 |

I can think of no rational reason why someone should not use epub.

"All mobi files are not created equal."
Fair enough, but why does this particular MOBI work OK on the Kindle and not on the Kobo? Thanks for all the comments. |

What kind of pie?
I once sent frozen key lime pie from Florida to Spokane Washington air freight in ice box with dry ice. |

Because Kindle is a reader dedicated to the .mobi and .azw formats, while Kobo has a limited support for it. Try to put a vanilla .epub book in a Kindle, the Kindle won't know what to do with it.

This was 30 years ago I sent the pie. Maybe they had them or not. He liked the pie was all that mattered.

After a careful re-reading of the thread, I can only conclude that if one were to send a plain vanilla epub in a box with dry ice cross country to Spokane, WA and attempt to read it on a Kindle they would likely end up with pie(key lime?) on their face?

More like, if Kindle had a face, it would have ended with it covered with vanilla, from the epub that came in a dry ice.

there are mobi files that also do not convert well into epub format. i had one book where all quotes and apostrophes were converted into squares. since then, i tried not to convert anymore and have successfully raised a kindle paperwhite along with several native epub readers in the same household.
