STILL brilliant. I have pretty much all their albums, and have seen them on tour a couple of times.

Huh! The Pre-fab Four! The studio musicians and folks who wrote their songs had talent.

Listen to Your Heart by Roxette. The 80s isn't my favorite musical era by any means, but I actually do like this song. Probably because of that cover a few years back.

A very silly argument used in the press at the time, given that everyone used session musicians on their records (including the Beatles); they just didn't admit it. You're right that the Monkees didn't (at first) write their songs, but then neither did, say, Elvis Presley or Frank Sinatra!

The difference was that when they first appeared on TV, only one -- Michael Nesmith -- could actually play an instrument. The rest had to learn their chops for eventual live concerts.

But their concerts did introduce Jimi Hendrix to a larger audience.

Hendrix had second billing.

I didn't realize that I was so much older than so many here. I was in high school when many of these songs were hits!

Do you know that I have no idea what was 'Top of the Pops' when I was born?

At my age, probably 'Greensleeves' was the hot favourite!

Cheers.
