Young blood reverses effects of aging (in mice)

Maybe we all need to be vampires

Heh, the power of young blood has been a trope for ages. It was rumoured that Pope Innocent VII in the 1400s drank the blood of or received a transfusion from Jewish boys.

It'll be interesting to see what comes of this. My guess is nothing since mouse models are turning out to be less than fantastic for longevity research. But...just in case, I will be stocking up on children's blood.

Please post in the correct forum - you've been an MR member more than long enough to know where things belong. This has absolutely NOTHING to do with mobile devices or reading. Moved to the Lounge forum.

I had a brainwave after reading this of storing my own blood at regular intervals to benefit myself in the future, until I remembered that blood for transfusion can only be stored for two months at the most. If the scientists come up with a way to store the specific component indefinitely, it would lead to a whole wave of "selfish" storers.

I'm already into my thirties, but hey, when I'm in my sixties it'll be better than nothing.

Quite possibly the best reason to have children*. Not only ensures supply, but it's self-storing. It may not be the youngest blood by the time you need it, but it'll be younger than yours!

*so claims the father of twins, trying desparately to show the world that his two daughters do not have him wrapped around their little fingers, but is in fact lying rather badly about the whole thing...

Kids are only a stopgap. Grandkids are the real deal. Yet another reason to spoil them silly

When they get to their teens the rejuvenating effect of their blood will be completely inadequate compared to the accelerated aging they impose on their caregivers!
