Spilled Milk - A $.99 thriller from Michael J. Scott
What would you do to protect your kids?
For Gerrold Smith, a widower whose children have been taken from him by the courts, the answer is to hold the city hostage. What starts as a random act of violence quickly escalates into terrorist activity, and as Gerrold discovers the city’s dark secret he must choose between saving his own children, or sacrificing them to save even more. Content Advisory for Spilled Milk: No sex (some discussion of rape and child pornography), some violence (guns, bombs, and car chases), mild profanity (no blasphemy). About 79,000 words (roughly 300 pages printed). Spilled Milk only $4.99 on Smashwords! Last edited by MichaelJScott; 07-14-2013 at 08:55 AM. |

Received some positive feedback and critique from a reader the other day, and I've recently uploaded a new version of the book. Gerrold Smith is quite the anti-hero, and if you like ambiguity, he will keep you guessing whether to root for him or not!

The book is starting to gain some traction, which I'm quite happy to see. I talked to a friend who read it the other day, and she opened with, "What goes on in that head of yours?" I said, "Oh! You've read Spilled Milk!" Had a good laugh.
No, I'm not some crazy psycho. I do, however, like to unleash my imagination down various, dark rabbit holes and follow them wherever they lead. Spilled Milk is like that. It's a wild, scary ride that'll leave you wondering whether or not to root for the hero. |

Talked to another fan today--someone who picked up the print version of Spilled Milk. She's about halfway through it right now, and told me she can't put it down. The interest in this book continues to surprise me. I'll have the sequel done by the beginning of next year, I expect.

I just read an article this evening about how the government is going after raw milk. Did you know the EPA attempted to classify milk as an "oil," because of the fat content? This would have forced farmers to install all manner of expensive equipment on their farms in order to comply with these standards.
It's frustrating things like these that lead me to come up with stories such as Spilled Milk. All I have to do is just take that frustration to its extreme, and write what happens next. |

The overarching concern with Spilled Milk, and the impetus behind the story, is the frustration of the common man against a faceless, remorseless, senseless bureaucratic system. One man against the Leviathan of the State, and how blurry the line gets between "terrorist" and "freedom fighter."
Have a sip of Spilled Milk today. You'll like it. |
