The main improvements are:

1. Game with time controls. There are several type of time controls: game time + bonus (for human and engines), move time (for engines), search depth (for engines); You can add your own time controls!
2. Puzzles statistics. The time and number of fails are collected for each solved puzzle. You can now see your statistics (total, average time, total, average fails, etc); you also can find the worst puzzle in the whole database, reset it and solve it again!
3. Various operations with moves / variants: delete moves before, delete moves after, promote variation, move variation (top, bottom, up, down), delete variation;
4. Show which turn to move and various other board settings;
5. A very comfortable layout system which allows to very quickly change visual components proportions (header, board, notation). You also can add your own layouts!
6. Engine vs engine playing mode!
7. Export current game to PGN format
8. Kindle Touch gestures improvement;

This program (the same as any program from this forum) will never be offered by Amazon because it requires jailbreak.

99% that Kindle Touch version will run on Paperwhite.

Why not comply with Amazon requirements? You'd have a much bigger market if you did.

Because of many reasons.

1. They don't allow to develop applications for Kindle
2. They use java (you can't run any serious chess engine on kindle such stockfish, ippolit, etc)
3. They restrict out rights
4. Programs can be sold inside US only

Is this something more than just a GUI for Stockfish and other UCI-capable engines?

If not, then there are several much more appealing options for many operating systems. (But granted, maybe not for Kindle Touch.)

Stockfish is, by the way, the strongest open source engine around at this point. There are very few commercial engines that can compete with it.

On a sidenote, I think that "chess on the computer" is quite done. When pairing an engine such as Stockfish or any of the big commercial ones (Fritz, Rybka, Houdini, Hiarcs) with a powerful computer, I think they'll be able to play at 2750+ ELO level, at least. If you're not within the top 50 in the world, you'll be outmatched. When adding a deep opening book such as the one that comes with the Chessbase GUI's, which holds lines up to 30 moves (!!) for popular openings, and pair it with a 5-piece endgame tablebase, these engines virtually become unbeatable. They only need to "survive" the middle game, to be able to fully coast on the opening and endgame libraries.

Of cause not just a GUI for engines. It is mostly chess training program that allows to:

1. Improve your chess tactics
2. Improve your endgame
3. Review your games, try variations
4. Review annotated games with comments and variations in PGN format
5. Edit chess PGN notation (strip moves, variants, promote variants, etc)
6. Play on the different levels and time controls
7. Learning chess openings (in the near plans)

right... That's an opinion.

I assure you that is a sketchy use of the word Symbolic.

"Relatively Cheap" or "Value for money" would be better in that context.

It's your app, do what you will.

1 pence would be a "Symbolic price"
or selling a company for a dollar.
or setting up a company shareholders agreement for $2....

$6 in certain parts of the world is FAR from being symbolic.

Whatever, you did the work. I was surprised is all.
