update_reginfo_v0.2a has been worked successfully with me on old firmware (ver 2.1.1) of Kindle DX (B004).

I think manual coping of this XML file called reginfo:

B009 = Kindle DX Graphite.
This is first time I know about this serial number prefix.
I don't have it yet, I hope I do soon.

Thanks Nifty for posting just what I was looking for.
By the way, I was wondering if I have to update Amazon's 2.5.x firmware separately after completing the steps you described.
I couldn't update the firmware because my kindle was not registered.
But now that it's successfully registered, "Update Your Kindle" is still grayed out when I copied new firmware to my kindle.
Can you give me a hand on this one?

I tried it again on a new Kindle DX after reset and system update but both versions not worked, then I tried the otherway by useing "reginfo" XML.
As I said before:

It worked with me.
It really amazing, the device got registred without restarting.

Please try again with command-line method.
I just edited XML file and fixed some errors of syntax.

Seems like there are mixed success on the larger and darker Kindle's.

Has anyone been able to do this for the DX Graphite?

In the settings of my device it reads that the software version is 2.5.5 and the serial number is B009...

Any guidance would be nice as I would hate to destroy my first and newly unboxed e-book reader.

I use Kindle DX (US) (B004) version 2.5.4 and

update_reginfo_v0.1 worked perfectly with mine.

ps. but on first page you link "reginfo update(mirror)" doesn't seem to be working?
