Cant speak to the cover in exact terms... makes it feel like a book though as far as size. Its an LCD style screen (like a modern laptop), which opens up all kinds of non-reading things like games, real web surfing, and video. For reading it opens up graphic novels, children's books and comics. Because its backlit LCD you do not need ANY external light to read it, which I find to be a big advantage. Basically NookColor is a great e-reader that can do some tablet like things. NookTouch, Kindle, and the others are great e-readers that are just that, great e-readers alone. |

Tablet =! eReader.
Tablet -> LCD screen eReader -> eInk screen. At least, that is the differentiation i do. |

I would not expect your definitions to stand over time. There are a number of interesting display technologies, including Mirasol, that can be expected to have an impact on future low power display devices. They will probably still be called "Tablets" and "eReaders" depending on their functions. (After all, we are calling "Pads", "Pods", "Slates", and who knows what else "Tablets".) There seem to be a lot of people who also make the erroneous equation of eReaders with eInk. There are and always has been dedicated eBook reading devices that use other screen tech. Luck; Ken |

Yes, lots of erroneous common usages around... PC = Windows computer, Hoover = vacuum cleaner, Kindle = eReader etc but they generally stick once the general media also adopt 'em and looks like eReader = eInk device... guess we'll have to wait a little to see if that one sticks...

eReader = device whose primary function is to read books ie NookColor, Kindle, NookTouch, etc.
Tablet = device that is touch screen based computer running a mobile os ie: IPad, Asus Transformer, etc. There are no clean divisions, heck you could call the Asus Transformer a netbook...but the Nook Color is most definitely an eReader unless you do something to make it otherwise (i.e. root it, dual boot to cm7, etc) IMO at least. |

For a reading device, I need 6 hours of battery life, at least. Hoping Amazon's upcoming 7 inch Android tablet will have something approaching the iPad's 10+ hours of battery life.

BTW iGo also has devices that that 2x AA batteries to recharge your phone or ereader.
Wave form should not be a huge deal, as the AC is converted to DC by the device. |
