Is my PP bricked?

So Haven't used my PP in awhile.

I turned it on and it stayed on the Starting screen.

Saw a post about updating the firmware, when I do that, I get an Md5 error.


I did get it past the starting screen once, but then it locked up on me as I was reading something. I got it plugged into to the wall charger at the moment just confusedon what to do.

I would start by leaving it plugged in for at least 8 hours. The PEz doesn't work well with a low battery. I wouldn't even consider updating the firmware unless the PEz is fully charged. We've been told that a PEz runing out of juice in the middle of a firmware upgrade is a really bad thing. After it's fully charged, try pushing the reset button and turning the device on and off.

MD5 error on a Update file = damaged. Get a good file
BTW Where did you get the MD5 sum or was it when you Un-RAR'd it?

I get the MD5 when I am about to do the install and yes it was unrar'd.


Anyways I did update the firmware.

grabbed Chariots of Gods? Just because I was interested to see what someone from 1968 thought about Aliens :-P plus a TV show is premiering on Tuesday on History I believe.

anyways so I was reading it last night fine. locked keyboard. Slept, woke up, brought my PP with me on the travel to work, and was reading on train. First as I was switching from Bus to Train I had to lock the keyboard, got on train could not unlock.

So I reset it, starts up fine, go back to where I was. Get about two pages through, and then it wouldn't do anthing. when I hit page turn the button lighted green but did nothing.

hit other buttons same result. So decided to reset it again and now AGAIN stuck on starting. I think I bought it around october so I assume there is a year warranty? I got it from Newegg, and the paint has been coming off for while, but this stinks. I read it happened to someone else not too long ago, and really is a turn off, although I really do love the thing.

I haven't taken a look yet, it's been 15 minutes since I last checked on it.

Yes, you should always re-charge whenever the Battery Charge Life indicator get down top a little below halfway. Do not wait for it to get really low.

I know you been a great help on these boards, and only reason why I don't want to jump to another reader (though I love it to be able to get cheap books like amazon, still hate seeing books for 20 bucks on other sites, but I digress).

I had it charge for a LONG time yesterday and I am plugging it in here at work now again. Maybe the battery was completely dead even though my indicator shows full.

Now it got to a page, but still not doing anything, I am really thinking maybe the battery was seriously dead and needs a 15 hour charge.

Also side note: Chariots of the Gods? is very interesting so far, to have those type of ideas in 1968, in the middle of the space race, and to get some predictions of what space travel will be like in 20 years almost accurate (although some is way off so far, but only 3rd chapter in) is impressive.

You are right about Chariots of the Gods. A great book. Did you know that there is a separate thread today on here announcing Interactivity where you can interact with the our eBook Specialist and get book reviews and talk about your favorite eBooks and such?

About your battery, using the Pocket PRO or EZ Reader with a low battery causes all sorts of problems. I TRY to warn all not to let the battery get much lower than half on the Battery Charge Life indicator without recharging. I have seen where the device can really act gruesome on too low of a charge. It goes from user-friendly to rebellious. Read the FAQ sheet on www.theEZread.com/html under "support". That will tell you how to charge and monitor and ensure that it is indeed charging correctly. ALWAYS charge about two hours past where you get the green light. Green means "the start of FULL" and is not Totally Full (kind of like the gas gauge on your car).

It seems to be working a bit better. I think it was totally dead. I haven't used it in a bit because of school and stuff and working tough sometimes.

Not far into the book, but I like it so far.

I looked at your site yesterday I believe and saw some good stuff, but I think one book was still $15.00 that was cheaper on Amazon. And most new releases are still pretty darn expensive, unless it is amazon but I get it.

i haven't fell in love with a format yet. I forget what World War Z was, but I got it from BoardonBooks, so I believe it was ADE and it was ok, but i had to zoom in to much for good reading. Mobi has been nice from what I have gotten so far.

With the April Update, Rich text looks better (before Dante's Inferno I had no paragraphs, after the update there is now.)

Still I love the pocket pro, I read a lot of books on it so far, and I just hope it wasn't dead. I will see on the train ride home shortly, but last I checked it looked good.

Let us hope all goes smoothly from now on. The Pocket PRO is a fabulous eBook Reader and offers so much. But, any device is a bit complex at times and we have to get you pleased and stable.

I think the worst case may be the battery is bad. That is the worst I can think of. You are under warranty so your problem is our problem and we will take care of pleasing you!!

Seems better but does seem to lock up every now and then when reading and I have to reset. Still it is working better then it was before.

Well, that is better news; but it should not be hanging up at all. You MAY have a corrupted file with the book you are reading. I do not know... just a suggestion.

I wish others on here would chime in today. In any case our tech support is available. I did give you the phone and email address earlier in this thread.

Is this one eBook you are reading or several different ones when the hanging up occurs?

I will try another book later soon and see how it works.

I do have the information, but just giving it a week of use before I call, I don't want to send it back if there is nothing truly wrong.

It froze a lot last night on me as I was trying to put news feeds from Calibre onto my Pocket Pro.

I may give a call soon, which is sad lol. I heard about your great turn around so no worries. Not sure why it keeps freezing, even when I am not in a book. It is the same error that other user posted about how you reset and it just stays at the Starting screen.
