Red face PDF to EPUB help

Heya all,

I have been using my Elonex 511EB since release and its finally bugged me enough to get help. When converting pdf ebooks to epub is there any specific settings I should use on calibre to minimise words like don?t instead of dont and when words are split between lines. Should I even choose epub or just go for txt and minimise the spacing between lines.

From an earlier thread, Rotha has a large collection going back a few years, and many of the books are PDFs, usually single-column. The reflow option on the Elonex works to some extent, but the page turns are slow, so Rotha is trying to convert the PDFs to ePub using Calibre. The books aren't available in another source format.

for the question marks try translate unicode characters to ascii under conversion look and feel.
For the split lines (not quite sure what you mean) try under conversions preprocess input under look and feel -or- line unwrapping factor under pdf input.

For words split between lines there is new functionality coming in this week's release. It sounds like the split words may not be english? Is there a hyphen when the words are split? The new functionality looks for words with hyphens, and for each hyphenated word it will use the current book as a dictionary. If a word matches without the hyphen then the hyphen will be removed.

0.7.19 should still un-wrap lines with hyphens, but it will leave the hyphen in place.

Sounds good.

This i can confirm.

But i have another Problem with german books.

Calibre also breaks Lines when there is a special (german) Char at the end of a word, like "daß" .(very often used in german)

So if this could be fixed too, it would be a great benefit in converting german books.

For special characters like that open a bug with a pdf attached containing that character and we can tweak that.
