Converting txt

hello
i want to translate a german txt e-book to the ebub format. But everytime I try this in the output text the words with special signs like ä, ö, ß aren't complete. There are parts of the word lost. I also try to convert to pdf. The same thing happened. But when I converted the txt file first with word 2007 to pdf and then converting it with calibre to epub it works. Is there a way to convert the txt files direct to epub without loosing part of words.
thank you

Specify the input character encoding under Look & Feel.

I don't know. Whoever created the book you are trying to convert used a character encoding that contained your symbols. I don't know what it is. You can try CP1252, CP1251, UTF-8, latin1.
