Protected by Digital Rights Management

Hi,

I purchased a copy of a book via the Sony Reader Library store for my wife's new 650. When she tries to access the book via the continue reading option at the top of the reader screen, she gets a "Protected by Digital Rights Management" error message. However, when she accesses the book via a bookmark that she made, she can read it no problem.

Does anyone have any insight as to why she's getting this error message one way, but not the other?

Cheers,
slow

I recopied the book to the reader and it has stopped giving us the DRM protected message. I wonder why it stopped recognizing that we own the book...

Maybe just a glitch in the first transfer.

Mine just did the same with a book I was reading... I am turning off the reader by doing a complete shutdown everytime instead of the sleep mode option...

I just went to the list, selected another book, went back to the first book and it took me to the first page.... I had to go back to the chapter I was via the index... I hope it was a one time thing...

After thinking about it a bit more - I think it might have had something to do with connecting the reader to our laptop, but I'm not sure why.

We weren't getting the error message when we first copied the book to the reader. The error message only started popping up after the next time that we connected the reader to the PC to add more books.

Not sure... in my case I had been reading for awhile... and had been turning off (complete shutdown) several times during the day. I attributed to the shutdown instead of using the sleep mode.

I will report back here if this happens again. Right now I am using the sleep mode instead of complete shutdown. Maybe I should go back to complete shutdown to see if that was the culprit.

Why are you using the complete shutdown? I have never used the complete shutdown with either my 505 or the new 650. The sleep mode works just fine and also has a nice screen saver picture.

Yeah, I know... should use the sleep mode instead. That is what I am doing now. In the past, I would use the shutdown to save battery life... just force of habit.

I suspect that you're using more battery booting it up several times a day than you would if you used sleep mode. There's very little battery draw in sleep mode for most e-ink models.

My PRS-900 takes about an hour to charge while the battery lasts 3-4 weeks, and I guess other readers have similar characteristics. The extra drain from sleep mode will not influence the charging time noticeably.

Not noticable... also quite a few people (when using a PSU) read whilst charging...
