Isn't the purpose of ScratchBox-2 supposed to be an answer to just these sorts of configuration problems? I.E: Run configure tests in a target environment.

@twobob:

> configure:8146: checking that the C compiler understands negative enum values
> configure:8153: error: in `/usr/local/src/samba-3.6.7/source3':
> configure:8155: error: cannot run test program while cross compiling

Checking the configure at said place reveals:

8169 > if ac_fn_c_try_run "$LINENO"; then :
8170 > samba_cv_CC_NEGATIVE_ENUM_VALUES=yes
8171 > else
8172 > samba_cv_CC_NEGATIVE_ENUM_VALUES=no
8173 > fi

As for the proper value, that probably depends on your TC, you'll have to check the compiled test yourself manually .

The configure script detects cross_compiling={yes,no} but the define of ac_fn_c_try_run is not conditionalized by "cross_compiling" (it says so in the function's comments and code).
Duh...

So if Scratchbox-2 can't do, it will have to wait until I have an emulator image that can build it.

Note: This one also checks for **both** python and perl.
Who wrote that Samba would be cross-compile friendly? ? ?

In the end I managed to get BR to swallow it.

This is normal if an SMB client has never connected to your server.
I'll have a look in the configure logs and see which flags it swallowed and what was ignored.

That must have taken more than a bit of doing.
I am sure I would have given up on it from your last reports.

It's a start...

I switched over to the 2007q3 TC.

My limited understanding does appear to now be successfully passing 90% of the flags I want through to BR - with the right headers just for good measure.

I still need to dig through the master .mk and see why my prefixes and such get overridden - The config logs don't seem to reveal "why" and neither does the make.

I'tll get figured out, stuff does in the end.

either way. I have a version that I can use for testing purposes. with only one horrible hack.... an extra ln -s in /etc for the smb.conf - just until I figure out why it still ignores it's own configure options...

but still - a worker.

And the TC seems to pull all the right bits and bats with Nilujes Pre-processor directives in place. I also tried this, the 2006q3, 2008q1, 2010.09, 2012.03 TC's

To see when a fundamental "Break" occured. I got this one to work with no nightmares.

Hope that helps someone else. I went around updating various posts - not all of them yet - with better info. : )

so yeah. samba. insmod smbfs.ko works fine now.
I guess that's for if it needs mounting?

Just considering if I have a blocked port issue ATM. : )

probably also missing the entire user smbpasswd system come to think of it too
*sets about remembering stuff long forgotten*

all input gratefully accepted as ever.

I haven't been wrong today yet - that I know of - so still got one to get out of the way ; )
