Why is the word, "phonetics" spelled with "ph" instead of an "f"? Wouldn't "fonetics" be more phonetically correct?

Because when English spelling was first standardized, they choose to keep the spelling of a word's perceived "root language". Meaning that French words would be spelled one way, Norse words another, Greek yet another, etc etc. This silly tradition has continued with words adopted into the language to this day.

I've been doing some thinking about the way that music charts are compiled and if there is a better way to determine what the most popular song actually is. Could it be done in a way that more accurately reflects the popularity of a song and allow recognition of songs that aren't released as singles. Would a better way to determine the popularity of a specific song is just to go by sales (both as a single and as part of an album)?

What if the following was used to score each song:

- Each song sold as part of an album receives 1 point.
- Each song sold individually receives 3 points.

The reason for the higher number of points for the single is because it indicates that specific song is more popular since people specifically purchased that song. The single point for each of the songs on an album gives recognition to the songs that were purchased, yet would never (for various reasons) see release as a single.

To me, this would more objectively reflect a song's popularity because it's based on its sales. A song either sells or it doesn't sell.

How many electrical cords does it take to produce a modern song? Well, there's one for each electric instrument, plus those for the lights, and then all of those for the recording equipment. I wouldn't be surprised if a modern song involves more than 100 electrical cords.

Why is 220 volts the standard in Europe, while 110 volts is the standard in the U. S.? Does 220 volts offer an advantage over 110 volts?

Could it actually be the result of a different type of electric elves between the two areas of the world? Do higher voltage electric elves live in Europe? Would the answer be truly shocking?

Will the Monty Python General appear to keep things from becoming too silly?
