Web site for the 40th Anniversary of Apollo 11
Found this in the internet news. For all you space enthusiasts.
The Web site - WeChooseTheMoon.org - goes live at 8:02 a.m. Thursday, 90 minutes before the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 launch from Cape Canaveral, Fla. It will track the capsule's route from the Earth to the Moon, ending with the moon landing and Armstrong's walk - in real time, but 40 years later. Last edited by AJ Starr; 07-13-2009 at 12:13 PM. Reason: Reworded title to eliminate severe humiliation (mine) |

If the original title is in the original post, I understood it just fine.
Thanks for the link, I will check it out. I do remember being sprawled out on the floor in front of the television for the landing and walk. We had just moved from Edwards AFB to L.A. and were always fascinated by all things space. |

Cool! Thanks, AJ Starr. I remember staying up and watching them land or walking onto the surface, but I can't recall exactly. And I think the LEM landing footage was actually not broadcast live at the time but I have forgotten why. I mostly remember being amazed by it all.
I also remember one of my friends (it was the summer before 7th grade for us) who claimed he was the going to be the first man to walk on Mars. He's now 52. Maybe his grandson could make that boast. |

My family was too cheap to get Twitter in 1969 so I missed out on a lot. But thanks to NASA they are going to re-tweet the Apollo 11 mission.

*sigh* I remember going to the neighbors as they had a color TV (not that it really mattered). all the adults used it as an excuse to have a cocktail party.

I'm old enough to remember watching it in realtime. Fortunately, I'll be at home this Thursday, so I can relive the wonder again.

They've just begun broadcasting and launch is an hour and a half away from now.

I am following the whole thing on Twitter and was surprised to learn that the reason that Michael Collins did not get to land on the moon on the lunar module was because Buzz Aldrin called "Shotgun" before he did.
For those who are not sure what "Shotgun" means you can find the rules here: http://www.shotgunrules.com/ |
