Firmware Update, Android Notification Area?
Guess this thread is just as well for these questions.
Those who already have the Imco - did you install the firmware update? I just saw there is one (V1.10, on my device is 1.7 - the change log doesn't look too interesting, though. What do they spend the 200MB on?). Also, does anyone know if there is a way to pull down the Android notification area? (The bar on the top with the icons in it - on my phone I can pull it down to see all the messages, but on the Imco?) For an open Android reader, there isn't much one can do it seems :-( [edit]I downloaded an unzipped the update - at first glance I'd say there is an entire system in the zip. Might not be the actual system on the device, but merely for the update process. Still, looks promising. Last edited by Cyberman tM; 02-24-2014 at 12:13 AM. |

Yes, I already installed the latest firmware update. Downloaded it directly with the reader and moved it to the correct directory. Then it started to update itself automatically.
No luck with the notification bar either. I have installed several Android applications like Dropbox or Moon Reader. I think it is very nice to be able to do this. I have written about this on http://www.peleke.de/tests/der-eread...cov6l-im-test/ |

Interesting tidbit: you can connect to the device with the Android Debug Bridge (ADB) from the Android SDK.
Even if you don't tell the device to enable USB storage. Useful for poking around the system, but maybe a security risk, if you feel paranoid. Usually you'd disable that in the settings, but I don't remember seeing that anywhere. |

Imcosys has released a new firmware (1.11) that supports the Amazon Kindle application and improves the overall speed: http://www.imcosys.com/imcov6l.html
I like the performance improvements! |

-- Also, for those who like to have custom images on standby (not book covers, though): using the ADB connection it's possible to change the standby pic to something more exciting than the cup of coffee. You have to remount the system partition, though, so be careful. (The pictures are in /system/logo . So far I changed the standby pic, but there should be an offline picture as well.) [edit]On second take, I realize there is very limited space. The new pictures must not take up more than the old :-( Last edited by Cyberman tM; 02-24-2014 at 11:23 PM. |

Today's not my day...
To quote someone here this forum: some days it's not worth chewing through the leather straps...
I thought the touch-screen of my reader was kaputt. Apparently it wasn't, though it didn't react at all. A restart (reset) finally helped - interestingly,it didn't work until it was connected to a power source. May be coincidence. I reinstalled the latest update (figuring it'll overwrite all non-data areas), but a problem remains: whenever I open a book, the music starts to play. VERY annoying, of course. I have no idea why. Also, during the time the touch-screen didn't work, a serious flaw in the design became very apparent. The reader is entirely useless without its touch-screen. You cannot even turn it off! Let alone open a book. [edit]Does anyone know if there is a way to do a factory reset? Kobo has a special partition with the whole system to copy over, but does ImcoV6L have something like that too? [edit2] Instead of spamming this thread with (more or less interesting) tidbits, I've decided to create a page on the Mobileread wiki in my userspace: https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/User...man_tM/ImcoV6L hope that's alright. One thing that needs to be mentioned in all reviews of the V6l is the excellent PDF support. The native reader application is apparently a newer version of the Trekstor Pyrus one which was very good already.
The V6l does an even better job reflowing pdfs. I don't bother converting anything in Calibre anymore, the V6l results are usually better even with difficult layouts with graphical frames and backgrounds and such. |

How about installing Cool Reader? Anybody tried it? Buttons working everywhere, in the built-in file manager and in settings too? Maybe one of builds made by jotas if not by buggins?
How about GoldenDict dictionary software? Those are two apps I use on an android e-reader and would like to know they are working before I buy it. So if somebody tried them, please let us know! |

Landscape?
My question is, how does the Imco V6L handle the landscape mode? It surely allows landscape reading. But what about landscape menu and app interface? What about landscape web browsing and apps?
I use my Kindle 3 (keyboard) exclusively in Landscape mode. This is a reason why I rejected Duokan. Some photographs would be welcome. |

Hi,
Any one know how to get Googleplay to run ? Have installed the APK, but when i say yes to log in to an google account, the app stops. "Android Device ID" show that the ImcoV6L has no GSF ID )-: Problem with no GSF ID, specialised APK's from googleplay will not install due to parsing error, because the are bound to the GSF ID )-: Found that the GoogleMail APK, holds the code for google-account, but can again not install GoogleMail APK, due to "Parsing Error". Any word on how to get GooglePlay up and running ? |

Hmm, I hadn't updated the firmware until just now (v1.20), and I'm relatively sure the lowest brightness setting is now brighter than it was before. This is rather annoying since it's now as bright as the Kobo Glo on the lowest setting.
My Cybook Odyssey gave up the ghost today, so now I'm down to the V6L. |

Was interested in this reader but had trouble finding out to order.
Sent an e-mail to imcosys and got the reply back "we do not sell our readers to the Netherlands ". Very strange !. |

Hello,
All the reviews I've read about the ImcoV6L pick up on poor battery life. Is it true? What is the battery life compared to other ereaders? How long will the battery last with wi-fi off and 30-40 mins reading daily? Also can someone comment on build quality compared to Nook Simple Touch? Does the soft touch finish deteriorate over time? Also is android rooted/rootable? Is it possible to install IVONA TTS? Thanks Last edited by ev8383; 06-04-2014 at 11:42 AM. |

Since i've installed the latest Firmware V1.21 I haven't problems and the Reader work very good. With one full battery I can read approx. 2'300 pages and in my last Holiday the battery was fine for more then 3 weeks. Frankly speaking many from the bad Feedbacks aren't based on the Reader they are based on non-compatible Apps or not E-Ink-adapted Apps. I'm very happy with my imcoV6L.
