I decided to get the newest Kindle Paperwhite as my primary reader for this coming year. I just love the convenience of the built-in lights on my older KPW & Nook Glow. I am still waiting to see what B&N will offer for a new Nook Glow model for EPUBs. I just don't know if I have the patience for the Kobo bugs. I also still have my T2, T1 & 350 that should last awhile. I guess I will just keep using those for now.
I feel the same, my first ereader was a 505 I received for my birthday the year it was released and I loved it, I don't use it anymore; it still takes a charge though. I liked how I could order a collection/shelf however I wanted in the old Reader Library software and simply transfer it via USB unlike the Nook ST I received also as a b-day gift the year it came out, lol! Except for the touchscreen I never cared much for the NST, there were too many little quirks about it that I just never liked; I bought myself the Sony T1 a few months later (& the lighted cover soon after when I found it on sale) and relegated the NST to loaning books to my parents. I also switched completely over to using calibre to manage my library not just for conversions.

After yearning for a reader with built in light for a while and despairing of Sony releasing a new one (and not wanting a Kindle for various reasons) I lucked into a nicely priced Aura HD & sleepcover here in the flea market (followed soon after by the new Aura I won on twitter ) and I love 'em both (no bugs for me so far) but if Sony were to come around and give us a Reader with built in light competitively priced I'd be tempted to get it just for the ease of checking out library books.

He gave me a good price but the 350's had various problems and I returned them and got stuck with an overpriced reader.

I almost never buy anything up here and buy my stuff in the States where it's much cheaper. Books, food, music, clothes, movies, electronic toys...some are getting closer with the value of the dollars being so close but not that long ago there was huge sticker shock on everything here!! :O There still is on so many things.

I buy milk in the US for $1.08 - $2 for a gallon. Up here that same size is over $5. I don't buy it but that's what people tell me and I see in flyers. When I buy over the counter medicine in the US there's no tax. yay! Here, not only is the item price much higher but then they hit you with 13% on top of it. fffft!

Target is up here now but the prices are NOT what they are in the States. Well how come you ask??? The lovely folks at Target Canada tell us that that's what the market will bear so that's what they do. In other words, everybody else charges more & Canadians will pay it so we might as well too. Yay Welcome to Canada!! LOL eesh

I've decided to double down for now. My first impulse was to buy a PW or Aura immediately, but there's no need. I have a friend who is a big reader but who's not into e-books I was going to give my Sonys to but I've changed my mind.

Getting a new battery for the 350 and making popcorn so I can watch what happens next in the industry.

Sorry, I did not realise that you Canadians suffer the same way we Europeans do when it comes to pricing of things like this. I naturally assumed that having an open border between Canada and the US meant that the price of goods was pretty much on par - seems like I was wrong.

But I have to say the policy of selling cheap in the US seems to have come back and bitten them when it came down to the T3.

No doubt I will ruffle a few feathers buy saying this, but I admire the stance that Sony has taken in not bowing to the US market - they make a quality product and as such deserve to get some reward for that.

Oh don't be sorry. Nothing to be sorry about.

I know it's really hard to tell in a typed post but I was posting in mock indignation. I hope it didn't read as if I was genuinely angry because I certainly wasn't.

No, sadly the price of goods between the US & Canada often varies greatly. It stings moreso when you can read it on the back of things like books & magazines. With the dollars now being so close and for so long, more & more Canadians are complaining about it. Retailers blame the gov't for taxes & duties, the gov't blames retailers for being greedy and we're stuck in the middle. And let's not even bring up the topic of car prices.....

I'm looking at the new Aura. I'm going to check if any local bookstores has the Aura available to demo. If so, I'm hoping for a return policy. I want to be able to return if I don't like. But it would really help to be able to try one in person.

All clear now. I did think you were actually being serious about the price, but that is probably me being overly sensitive about people complaining about prices when they seemingly get things so much cheaper than here in the UK.

I have to say the excuses you hear are so much like those here - cost of doing business etc. As we all know this is rubbish and the retailers just price things as to what they think the market will stand.

Saying that I was pleasantly surprised to see that the T3 is significantly cheaper at launch than any of the previous models - less than £100! So perhaps not having to subsidise the US market has allowed them to reward the rest of us.
