The library screen of the Opus is identical to that of the Gen3, with the addition of folders.

And besides the library screen? Still just a list of menu items when you push a button? The Pocketbook 360 has a "real" menu with submenus and context windows and options to choose from.
You may take a look at those screenshots I made: http://picasaweb.google.de/thomknip/FotosPocketbook360 Last edited by K-Thom; 09-17-2009 at 05:59 AM. |

That's a pretty nice interface. Thanks for the screenshots, K-Thom.

Ah, they are using fbReader.
Wonder if the interface is totally made by pocket book, or if it's fbreader's interface. |

The interface is made by pocket book (by the way, the are in violation of the GPL, theire kernel source code are not complete, they have removed some GPL files, and they use a lot of GPL application where they didn't provide the source code, like u-boot or busybox)

You are wrong, bookeen provide as far as I know all the GPL code they use, you should look more closely on their website

So you mean it is possible to compile the code on the web page and boot a Cybook? |

Godzil, "You are wrong" and "as far as I know" usually don't go along very well to make a point ... as far as I know Bookeen at least was in violation of the GPL with their .796 firmware.
Maybe they aren't any more by now. We'd just have to ask Bookeen (and Pocketbook). Don't know if that contains all the files (http://sourceforge.net/projects/pocketbook-free/files/), but it's more than Bookeen seems to provide. At least Pocketbook is working together with the community ... |

Find me the arch/arm/mach-s3c2410/pm.c file, that IS a GPL file, and is only provided as a .o file in the kernel tree... and there is not the only GPL c file that is missing inside their source files. Bookeen may have some problem with this long time ago, but it's not the case now. They explained why they weren't able to provide the source code at the time: they hadn't have it.
And where is uboot ? where is busybox ? whereis fbreader ? |

Sometimes i wish bookeen would drop ADE, so the firmware can be really open source.
Would it be possible to provide the compiled ade in addition to sources, so the open source code can actually be re-compiled and usefull ? Quote:

tompe: Some drivers can be tag as "proprietary" and they don't need to be open source. Since all GPL file and source are provided, they will not violate the license.
And yes I think that you can compile what you find on the GPL page of the bookeen's website. Eowyn: I'm not sure, or at least you should never do a make clean on the kernel tree or you will never been able to compile the whole kernel. Some GPL file are missing, like the power management (arch/arm/mach-s3c2410/pm.c) file. There are a lot of GPL files that are missing... (provinding only .o fiie for gpl source file is a GPL Violation) |

Compliance with the GPL does not mean you deliver what you want to and if you don't have it ready in your office then you may just skip those parts. It means it's your responsibility to either deliver *all* source code required by the GPL or make your supplier deliver the parts you don't have direct access to. And if you can't comply you're not allowed to use/sell/deliver the software in violation of the GPL. If we weren't talking about GPL here but about patent infringement the situation would be rather easy: Either you get your stuff to work out juristically or you get sued to kingdom come... |
