How to search #read

How do I use the "Read" column in a search? I see the search name is #read but I can't seem to build a search that uses it.

I've tried:
#read = true
#read = false
#read = yes
#read = no

all give me empty result sets.

You do want those with No marks don't you

(I am assuming, No means: don't bother

or N/A)
