Nook tablet for a child?
We were thinking of getting our 9-year-old daughter a Nook ST, but we're now thinking a Nook Tablet might be better.
Can you think of a negative as far as this tablet for a 9-year-old? Has anyone gotten one for a child? She doesn't need to be able to do everything I do on my iPad, and I don't want to spend twice as much as the nook tablet costs. Mainly, she needs an e-reader, a few educational apps and games, and the ability to stream Netflix is a bonus. |

With the latest update the original nook color got all the goodies from the tablet. The only differences are HD movies, a coating on the screen and of course a better processor with more RAM. for the use you describe, if you don't need HD, the NC should do. You can get them refurbished from B&N ebay store for $130.

Took advantage of the cheap refurbs and bought a NC for my daughter. She is 8 so having the color screen lets her read picture books as well.

Last Xmas purchased a color ereader for my granddaughter, and now find myself wishing desperately I'd gotten a Nook Color for her. She is also 8. The Nook Color will be an excellent buy for your daughter. Just remember she is a child, insure up the ying yang LOL.

I agree, unless the microphone is a big deal go with the color and save some cash. The color can now accept the netflix app, although resolution will be lower.

Well thanks everyone. We did get the tablet because of the faster processor - $50 isn't much to us, and I've had bad luck with refurb items in the past so I'd get new anyway, and we think the tablet might have greater longevity. But I appreciate the feedback!

Congrats on your new purchase, I hope you enjoy it (well, your child anyway).
