WHO CARES??
Amazon is a private business that has every right to sell or NOT sell anything they want to. This is not the local government funded library, it is a private business that can do things how they want. If they want to allow something, then remove it, then allow it, then remove it, who cares that is their choice. We do not tell you how to live your life, so don't expect to be able tell someone else how to run theirs. |

As a side note, 3 months ago I was thinking of either getting a Kindle or Sony 650. I choose the Sony because it was lighter, smaller, and could hold memory cards. However, I must have spent ~$600.00 this year buying ebooks etc from amazon. Because of their recent censorship, I won't be buying anything from them again (unless they have a 80% off ebook sale, lol). If I were a Amazon stock holder, I would not be happy about that. Also, in 3 years will Google be Amazons biggest ebook competitor?

I have mixed feelings on this one. I agree that Amazon does have a right to choose what it will sell and what it will not, however, the rules must be in place before hand, if that is what will be used to "drop" a client. I also agree with the person who posted that the book should have been rejected in the first place, if Amazon knew there was a chance it would cause an issue. (how could they not know.)
As to the author of the book - What were you thinking!?! You really couldn't have come up with a better, less offensive title for the book? I, personally, would stay away from any book (regardless of genre) with the word "rape" in the title. |

If I had stock in Netflix, and they made money selling snuff, and they stopped and their competitors Google etc where making money selling snuff, and Netflix started losing market share, then yes I would be upset.

If it was really about forbidden words in book titles they could just use a filter that checks for those words when they are first uploaded/published and display an error message.

+1 in defense to Amazon's actions. Nowadays it's not that hard to sell a book on your own pitty website so what censorship are we talking about?
I am sure those interested in a gay porn ebooks will be able to find them in a non-amazon environment. Amazon is not the world library to host any piece of s*^t ever written. |

In the US in 2006 there where 435,000 tobacco related deaths and 85,000 Alcohol related deaths. We can buy Alcohol and tobacco stocks, and those companies have at duty to their shareholders to sell tobacco and alcohol. Amazon has a duty to their shareholders to sell books. They are not a private company, they are PUBLIC. You have a point though, selling snuff would be amoral, but so is selling tobacco and maybe alcohol.

This still proves my other point, however, as I have no interest in checking out a book with this title - I equate it with pain and despair (among a few other awful & depressing images). So it would be a "no" for me. |

Giosué Orefice: "No Jews or Dogs Allowed." Why do all the shops say, "No Jews Allowed"? Guido: Oh, that. "Not Allowed" signs are the latest trend! The other day, I was in a shop with my friend the kangaroo, but their sign said, "No Kangaroos Allowed," and I said to my friend, "Well, what can I do? They don't allow kangaroos." Giosué Orefice: Why doesn't our shop have a "Not Allowed" sign? Guido: Well, tomorrow, we'll put one up. We won't let in anything we don't like. What don't you like? Giosué Orefice: Spiders. Guido: Good. I don't like Visigoths. Tomorrow, we'll get a sign: "No Spiders or Visigoths Allowed." La vita é bella, Roberto Begnini. |
