It's actually Mike Carey, same guy who wrote Lucifer for Vertigo. I've actually read this novel, it's a good read if you're into the whole magic/religion type thing (kinda like Lucifer).

I really liked it. Very sympathetic protagonist with a few clever twists in the plot too...
