E. B. White far and away. However, I wouldn't mind having King's money. I certainly wouldn't want Wallace's death!

I would love to get into the mind of Stephen King, although I also very much enjoy being myself.

Being any of those writers would involve giving up body parts that bring me a great deal of joy. Also, two of them are dead, which would be another good reason to not be them.
I think I'd prefer my writing style to be closer to King's than White's (but I enjoy White's tropes & topics more); I've never read anything by Wallace so can't say what I'd think of his work. |

I've been reading Stephen King since I was a wee lad, and his books have certainly influenced my own writing style to a degree. I wouldn't necessarily want to BE him (the man has his own personal demons), but I'd be quite happy if my readers made favorable comparisons to his work.

But I picked David Foster Wallace. If I could write like any of them, be any of them, I wish it'd be him, with his genius. I'm not sure you'd like David Foster Wallace, Elfwreck. Intellectually, I would guess you would, but subjectively it's way too hard to say. If you want to give him a go though, I recommend Brief Interviews With Hideous Men. Being all shorts, you could quickly give up if it didn't suit, without that compulsion to finish the whole book (which is me projecting, because that's my compulsion. ). I very much liked this book, and I've Infinite Jest on my TBR. Cheers, Marc |

Conor McCarthy or James Lee Burke, actually scrub Conor, I'd love the genius, but not the rest.....
No, definitely JLB. A great writer who has always lifted his genre out of the normal. And I'd get the money - although not as much as GeoffC ! |

King. No doubt. Been along for the ride with him for 33 years.
