Oh for goodness sake.
Calibre is great, and I love the news feeds thing. My only problem is, that I can't work out for love nor money, how to do one for The Guardian's news, sport and comment sections.
Does anyone have one they've already made? Cheers, Jamie. |

I modified the script to load the technology pages and calibre created an epub.
Most of it reads fine on teh reader, but some of the links towards the end of the technology TOC cause the reader to format and then reboot. This happens whether i transfer directly from calibre or using the book library. The epub also crashes in the book library preview but not in the AdobeDE reader - but the pages which would have the offending links on them are clearly in error as everything including the item descriptions are shown in blue as links. Could be a Guardian messup or a bug in calibre (surely not). |

class Guardian(BasicNewsRecipe):
title = u'The Guardian' oldest_article = 7 max_articles_per_feed = 100 timefmt = ' [%a, %d %b %Y]' remove_tags_before = dict(id='main-article-info') remove_tags_after = dict(id='article-wrapper') remove_tags_after = dict(id='content') no_stylesheets = True extra_css = 'h2 {font-size: medium;} \n h1 {text-align: left;}' feeds = [ ('Front Page', 'http://www.guardian.co.uk/rss'), ('Comment','http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/rss'), ('Media', 'http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/rss'), ('Technology', 'http://www.guardianfeeds.co.uk/technology/rss') ] The epub creation has problems with the last of the technology links and also some in the Media section. The LRF version has no such problems (but the epub has better picture handling) |

thursday morning the servers were working OK.
The LRF is fine but the epub again has problems with some of the links causing a reboot. The epub version is also slower responding to links whereas the lrf has only the usual inter page delay. I do like the epub layout though, more elegant layout than the lrf. Another comment - when the reader was plugged in downloading the news went straight to the reader, but even the lrf would then crash after lengthy formatting. I had to reload the news without the reader plugged in so that I could use the eBook library to do the moving. No point in having calibre transferring to the reader if the reader cannot cope with the formatting. No doubt we need a new version of AdobeDe to cope with formatting better. Thanks again Kovid for all your work. |

I have informed Peter Sorotkin (from Adobe) about the crashing bugs with EPUB files, so hopefully, they will be able to fix them and SONY will release a firmware update soon.
EPUB is slower responding to links because it doesn't pre-render all the content, so at each link it has to render the section the link points to. |
