Free (DRM-free iTunes/Kindle) In the Shadow of the Glacier [Canada Police Procedural]

In the Shadow of the Glacier by Canadian mystery writer Vicki Delany is 1st in her BC-set Constable Molly Smith police procedural series starring a rookie female local cop in a small town teamed up with the ex-big-city outsider chief. Together, they fight crime! This is free courtesy of publisher Poisoned Pen Press who are also offering discounts on several of the sequels, as well as Delany's standalone works.

I read this after I bought it as part of one of PPP's rotating monthly 99 cent 1st-in-series introductory specials and while it wasn't great, it was a fairly decent read with nice local flavour and I've since bought some of the sequels to continue later.

Currently free without DRM @ iTunes and Amazon (both available to Canadians). This is apparently intended as a multi-store promo according to PPP's infopage and should show up elsewhere (store links on their website if you want to go and check).

Poisoned Pen Press have discounted the next few books in the series, and some of Delany's standalone mysteries. I'm just going to mention/link external stores if their price is below what PPP has set the promo officially at, but you should be able to find it at the regular sale price in your preferred store if you're not hunting the absolute cheapest bargain/directly supporting the publisher/author.

Prices as seen from a Canadian perspective, YMMV in other regions.

#2 Valley of the Lost is $2.99 in an ePub/Mobi bundle directly from PPP (no cloud, will need to make own backups), $2.34 + $0.24 Reward Bucks in store credit @ Books on Board (DRM-free ePub), $2.88 and discountable with coupons @ Kobo (DRM).

Other volumes (see Delany's author page @ PPP for titles and series order numbering) are $4.99 (previously $6.99).

The cheapest place to get them is via Books on Board, whose 40-50% off backlist sale is still going, and puts the price of #3 and the two standalone mysteries at $2.90 + $0.40 Reward Bucks store credit back (effectively $2.50).

Amazon has one of the standalone mysteries for $2.99 and a self-published work which is also available on Smashwords for the same price (where you get multiple formats and the author gets 85% royalties instead of 70% from an Amazon purchase.

Description
Trouble is brewing in the small, bucolic mountain town of Trafalgar, British Columbia. An American who came to Trafalgar as a Vietnam War draft dodger has left land and money to the town. But there’s a catch. The money must be used to build a garden to honor draft dodgers. This bequest has torn the close-knit, peaceful town apart. Then the body of a leading garden opponent is found in an alley, dead from a single blow to the head.

Constable Molly Smith is assigned to assist veteran Detective Sergeant John Winters in the investigation. But Winters doesn’t want the help of the enthusiastic rookie and suspects that he’s been assigned Smith for political reasons: her mother, a life-long activist, is the leader of the group arguing for the park.

Egged on by a muck-raking TV personality, outside agitators from both sides are soon streaming into Trafalgar. In the meantime, Smith and Winters search through small-town secrets for a killer.
