Television Rant
I like TV. My TV in my home entertains & informs me and if I want to watch TV while I am out, I can use my mobile devices.
What I am really starting to dislike are TVs invading everywhere I go when I am out. When I go to coffee shops and restaurants, a lot of them have TVs now which is distracting and annoying. I can eat or drink coffee and watch TV at home. I go out to a coffee shop or restaurant with my date or friends for the ambience. I do understand TVs in sports pubs where you go with your buddies and want to see the game. I do understand a TV showing kids shows in the waiting room of the emergency ward. This helps keep them occupied. But I don't like them in coffee shops, restaurants or other places. I walk out. I did see a TV in the coffee shop of a grocery store turned to the Food channel. I could see that because it was in a grocery store and it could inspire people to buy ingredients. How about everyone else? Does it bother you or do you like it? |

Agreed.
The luddite in me is screaming for some wi-fi and 3g free coffee shops. Think 3m concrete bunkers for those of us wanting to escape constant radiation. |

Even if the sound on the TV(s) is low the images flicking across the screen(s) are a distraction.

I don't like those digital TVs on the wall of some restaurants here. Too much noise and distraction for me to enjoy a good dinner.

What we really need are more TVs in the crappers.

My veterinarian's office has a fairly large screen TV in the waiting room. I am torn between annoyance and gratitude for the diversion. The annoyance comes when it the sound is somewhat too loud. The gratitude is that it does seem to help with the frustration of waiting (this particular office rarely runs on time), and people seem much more laid back (dare I say drugged) by having it on. Mostly, I try to ignore it because my focus is on the dog I'm with not on TV shows. But I remember being quite astonished the first time a TV showed up in the waiting room! Another vet that I used to go to also had smaller versions in every exam room--that was over the top for me.

Comcast as offers business packages for internet phone & cable. So adding a TV to take advantage of the cable part makes sence. I think thats why TV is Everywhere now.

I already spend enough time on the throne having "away from everyone" time. If the trend of TV's in the potty picks up, I'll have to move my Mini-fridge into the bathroom and have the most efficient ultra-mini studio apartment in my home.

You're right. One coffee shop has the text turned on and no sound. I don't want to watch it, but my eyes keep being drawn to it to the detriment of paying attention to my coffee date.
