Cannot open book from within calibre
Hi,

whenever I try to open a book from within Calibe, the following error notification pops up: calibre, version 0.8.38

Accès refus seems to be Access Denied (in English), so I would suggest checking the file access permissions at the OS level first of all. Can you open this PDF file by browsing to the location with Windows Explorer and double-clicking it, or do you still get an error?

OK that proves the file/folder is readable

Calibre may need Write access (and should have it always) to the folders, even when only viewing the files (calibre stores internal bookmarks).
Or
the pathname is to long (that is a really long title name)

OR (not visible to us)
There are non-ASCII characters in the file/Title name

Most likely the file was open in some other program at the time.

No, none of these. It happens with all books, all the time, and write access is on. Books are not opened in other applications neither.

This is just a guess, I'm not a programmer so the error message means nothing to me, but do your books have DRM or are they DRM-free? I ask because it looks like that's a textbook of some kind and if I recall correctly Calibre can't open books with DRM.

the the entire library folder could be locked. ( maybe due to a previous PC crash) google free utilities like unlocker & see what they find. AND/OR copy the whole calibre library to a new location then try switch library & open from there.

test 2. download & import a free public domain book and try opening that in calibre - don't use any other program with that new book, for a clean test....
