Licence to Insult?
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=242385 Post 5
Does this mean that those who claim to have been insulted have a licence to insult others, or at least to make fun of them? |

Did HarryT claim to have been insulted???
My license to insult comes from feeling like it. Or like the opinion deserves it. |

Everybody has a license to insult anybody or anything including religion. If they don't like it they can insult back or refuse to talk to them anymore. It might not be polite or nice but it is not something thast needs permission either. Of course people who insult others aren't going to be liked, at least by the insulted entity, and they might get some verbal flak in return but that's to be expected.

The photograph on my License to Insult is not very flattering, so i rarely use it. Of course, there are times when it comes in handy.

The right to poke a little fun on the internet using captioned (non-vulgar) meme-ish images is inherent and inalienable.

I don't personally care if I am insulted, because I have a pretty thick skin. I simply retaliate, or if it makes me very angry, I try, and usually manage to just ignore and back out as I will probably say something I regret.
There are others not so thick skinned, with what to them are valid concerns. The post in question may seem a bit ridiculous, as in free and guaranteed unaltered being a bit much to expect, but I think it is a sincere question by a naïve person. Starting an almost duplicate thread is a no no, but not everyone knows this. I found the insults themselves amusing, but not sure that they may not be causing severe embarrassment and/or shame to the op. And I sadly cannot claim to not having done similar, but I am not happy with myself afterwards. Helen |

Yes, snark exists outside P&R. It is sometimes warranted, though using it as a first reaction isn't very nice. This wasn't most peoples' first reaction. |

If you can't defend yourself, stay off the internet.
Had the OP of that thread not already started a different thread on the same topic, a thread that had pretty much beaten the horse to death on that topic, he/she wouldn't have gotten so thoroughly clobbered in the thread in question. |

I still don't understand why a completely new thread was warranted, when just a few weeks ago that same horse was beat completely to death. |

This board is tame compared to the political boards I used to post on; especially when your political views are in the minority and you're tangling with both the left and the right.
Ah, the good 'ole days |
